Biography

Jacob Emmanuel Mabe (Germany/Cameroon) was born in 1959 in Cameroon. He holds two doctorates in political science from the University of Augsburg (1992) and in philosophy from the university (LMU) Munich (1996) respectively. ). He has been teaching philosophy at at the University of Frankfurt on Main, the University of Aachen, and at Berlin’s three major universities, the University of Technology, the Free University, and the Humboldt University. Since his habilitation 2004 (postdoctoral Teaching Qualification for Universities) he teaches as Professor at the Technical University, and he is permanent Visiting Scholar at the French Centre of the Free University in Berlin. Since 2008 he is President of the German Association for French-Language Philosophy, and Chairman of the Anton Wilhelm Amo Society. He is the editor and co-author of The African Lexicon (2001), the most important contemporary encyclopaedia on all things African, as well as author of several books and articles.
